You can use Cheat Engine to force the game to select a character of your choosing. It's possibly Sergio just used that to get Jaco to show up. I mean, I did the same thing. you got jaco like that? what settings did you use?i know i could get others. didnt know jaco was possible too

the caw character gets a few slots for costumes. like 7 extra slots. maybe those could be of use. instead of dumping ss5 goku over god goku maybe you could figure a way to put him in one of these 7 extra caw slots

No, I actually use my own method. I highlight Kid Gohan and search for 6 in Cheat Engine, then highlight Teen Gohan and search for 7. Then you just rotate between the two until you get several matches.
Just add those to the list and then freeze one until you find the proper address. Then you can change it to any character you want to see.

ok, this might be late but i might have an idea on how the characters are stored. i believe the characters are stored in a string array. if you find this array you can then possibly expand it with an hack and add new characters that way. where ever this array is held it gets expanded accordingly to whether or not you have dlc or not. there is a game i modded before that had the character select expanded using a tool, the same method might work with Xenoverse.
but after actually reading there might be another method through the cpk files.

so i did an experiment with charasel.iffy. one of the previous members did this too. but what i did is copy gokus data into a new folder named GG1 in charas folder. then replaced jacos name in the charasel.iffy with that. what happened is it locks it. my assumption is it doesn't know what to do with it. so it defaults to locking. so even if you add characters i bet they would be locked. what if we used something it might know about? going to replace GG1 with GOK next and see if its locked.
edit: tested with replacing GG1 with GOK and the slot where jaco was showing goku. so no matter if you added characters, they would be locked. unless you find the files that handle this locking.
also if you want more characters best work on decrypting iggy files as a start.
edit2: my first guess on what handles locking is the save file plus another file.

it is possible because of the DLC, however the way to do that will most likely entail finding what extra file types are used for the game...
this would be XML, java, flash types of file base coding... probably under a changed filetype, possibly also with extra encoding.
if we can find what extra file types are used we can narrow down which are most likely to be menu/stats/calls for light stuff having to do with GUI/hud elements.
usually if there is a combination of types (example: XML, flash) the flash files are used solely for the menu system... someone has already been looking at iggy files or whatever and come across what could be flash based file types. if someone can figure out how to change/convert those files to view them, then it would be possible to find out if they file type name was just changed or if there is extra encoding.
