I don't know how much difference does it make to leave "2E" instead of "00" for the hex-edits nor if something screws up -- I'd still swap them to zeroes, to prevent possible breaks after repacking your .CPK file.
Okay, can you confirm it working in the proper_noun_skill_spa_name_en.msg file? I cant seem to find the offset in the lower left corner at all. This is my current situation Trying to change 'wolf fang fist' into '8-Trigrams 64 Palms'

You open the file "proper_noun_character_name_xx.msg" ("xx" being the language you play the game, in my case it was pt as my main language is portuguese) and follow the same instructions from the first post.
It might be confusing at first, so read it slowly with more patience. If you're still confused, then just try making the same changes as shown in the tutorial before you do the changes you want for your game. This way you'll learn and will have a better notion of what to do when changing the characters names.
